Geese at Van Wellingham School field.

May 21, 2013

In 2012 several teachers from Van Wellingham, as well as parents and students joined up with City Naturalist to start addressing the geese problem on the school grounds.

Last year the group started trying goose deterrent techniques. This year they will be continuing the project with the goal of keeping the geese off areas which are most used for recreation. These techniques appear to be most successful when targeting designated spaces like sports fields. The general issue of geese using the retention pond and surrounding park space is a little more complicated but the group and City are continuing to work on measures which may alleviate some of the issues.
