Councillor John Orlikow's Budget Accountability Tool

December 11, 2013

Winnipeg City Councillor John Orlikow released his Budget Accountability Tool today to help Winnipeggers get a true idea of how Mayor Sam Katz is managing their money.

The tool uses the numbers provided by the City of Winnipeg to provide multi-year longitudinal comparisons and analysis of the figures provided in the City of Winnipeg’s Operating and Capital Budgets.

“The purpose of the Budget Accountability Tool is to makes City Hall accountable,” Councillor Orlikow said. “The information is not biased for political gain and opens up government by assisting people to determine on their own, without the political spin, how Sam Katz is managing their tax dollars.”

In addition to this tool, analysis will be provided throughout the week on various statements already made by the City of Winnipeg and to highlight areas of serious concern.

“The information clearly shows that Winnipeg is in financially trouble due to the Mayor’s failure to address the issues facing Winnipeggers.” Councillor Orlikow stated. “Working honestly with citizens and providing leadership is what the people deserve, now and in the future.”
