On January 25th, City Council approved the Route 90 expansion, including additional lanes and an active transportation pathway, as a response to the increasing overcapacity of traffic along this road. With a current traffic flow of over 50,000 vehicles expected to increase steadily into the future, the need is high. The new plan includes a pedestrian crossing at Kenaston and Lockston, an active transportation path from the bridge to Taylor. Transit improvements will be discussed in the detailed design phase, which will be done before this project commences.
Fifty four properties will be acquired and twelve properties will be partially acquired to accommodate this expansion. Affected homeowners can contact Elliot Hannam at 986-6738 to discuss the land acquisition process.
Although the plan is approved, construction will not begin until the City has federal financial support.
